The Village Hall
The Village Hall in Askerswell was purpose built following the closure of the school, which had been the venue for most village gatherings, in 1965. Since then it has been extended and has undergone regular improvements to provide the best facilities possible. The hall continues to accommodate a variety of activities for the community, at which both newcomers and returning Askerswellians are also given a warm welcome.
Aside from the regular events such as fortnightly table tennis, Get Fit Fridays,
monthly coffee mornings and village lunches, there are additional opportunities for the villagers to gather each month – the annual Cream Tea, Curry Nights with authentic dishes prepared by our own residents, Bingo (with beer and bangers !!), quizzes, visiting speakers, local drama productions, BBQ’s in the summer and Christmas get togethers with mince pies and much more. These are always cheerful, light hearted social events which keep the community connected and help to raise funds. The hall is also used formally for the Parish Meeting and other general meetings that arise throughout the year.
Village Hall Committee
The upkeep and day to day management of the hall is the responsibility of a team of trustees that make up the Village Hall Committee. The Chair of this committee is Mike Green. If you wish to know more about this or have a general query, please complete the below webform. Suggestions or ideas on what residents might like from their Village Hall are also welcome.
In addition to the Committee, there is a Village Entertainment Group which arranges a varied programme of social events for the villagers to enjoy, and are usually held at the Village Hall. You will see from the calendar that there is something happening most months.
